Another AC Milan face joins Tonali at Newcastle

Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali will have a new reinforcement from AC Milan that will help him integrate into Newcastle.

The summer of AC Milan fans started with the shocking news of the sale of Sandro Tonali. No one could have predicted the exit of the midfield lynchpin and future captain. The player’s bond with the Rossoneri colors was known story. Tonali had supported AC Milan since he was a child and fans had hoped he would become a banner of the club. However, things went differently.

Newcastle United put on the table an offer that was considered irrefutable in terms of that money that were offered to AC Milan and Sandro Tonali himself. Newcastle offered AC Milan a club record fee of €80 million, add-ons included while Tonali will earn up to 10 million per season in England.

However, Sandro Tonali will not be the only face of AC Milan to join Newcastle. Andrea Romeo has just left Milan and will serve as Team Manager of Newcastle. Romeo, a former Italian referee, served as Team Manager of AC Milan for six years, from 2017 until 2023. He will now be part of Newcastle’s staff.

The departure of Andrea Romeo has left AC Milan searching for a new Team Manager. There is not a clear front runner for the job but two names have linked with job. Lorenzo Libutti who is head of commercial football operations and has previously served as Team Manager at Watford and Dario Aduasio who from January 2022 is part of the Rossoneri’s sports secretariat.

Andrea Romeo, in addition to having refereed, was also Team Manager of Inter from 2014 to 2016. Marco Fassone and Massimiliano Mirabelli knew him from their time at the Nerazzurri and decided to take him to the other side of the Naviglio in 2017. Now he is joining Sandro Tonali in England.
